A 30-year-old patient was delivered to the surgical department with a medical diagnosis: Acute appendicitis. After examining the patient, the surgeon ordered the nurse to prepare the patient for surgery.

Exercise:

1. Give the definition of the disease “appendicitis”, name the type of operation according to the term.

2. List the symptoms of acute appendicitis.

3. Formulate the priority problem of the patient, solve it in stages of the nursing process.

4. Give recommendations to the patient on adherence to the regimen and diet in the postoperative period.

Situational task number 2.

A 45-year-old patient came to the surgical office of the polyclinic with complaints of throbbing pain in the region of the III-IV fingers of the right hand, and a sleepless night. From the anamnesis it turned out that two days ago the patient pricked his fingers with metal shavings, he did not go to the doctor. The surgeon made a diagnosis: Panaritium III-IV fingers of the right hand.

Exercise:

1. Define panaritium, name the cause of the disease, predisposing factors.

2. Determine the phase and stage of the inflammatory process.

3. List the patient’s current concerns, prioritize the problem, and develop a nursing care plan.

4. Give advice to the patient on taking medications prescribed by the doctor at home.

5. Name the type of bandage bandage, perform it.

Situational task number 3.

A 48-year-old patient was admitted to the surgical department, who a month ago discovered a lump in the right mammary gland. On examination, the doctor found in the upper outer quadrant of the right mammary gland a dense, inactive formation of irregular shape, 4×5 cm in size, soldered to the skin. In the right armpit there are single dense formations 1×1 cm in size. The doctor ordered the nurse to prepare the patient for an operation – a mastectomy, but the patient doubts the successful outcome of the operation.

Situational task number 4.

A 35-year-old patient was admitted to the burn department with flame burns, complaints of pain in the face, hands, hoarseness of voice, shortness of breath. Objectively: the general condition is satisfactory, consciousness is clear. On examination: the face, front surface of the neck and chest are hyperemic, there are blisters with serous contents, the right hand is edematous, hyperemic, single black scabs. AD 100/60 mm. rt. Art., pulse 90 beats per minute, rhythmic.

Exercise:

1. Define a burn, list the predisposing factors.

2. Name the types of burns according to the location and depth of the lesion.

3. List the current and potential problems of the patient, formulate a priority problem and solve it according to the stages of the nursing process.

4. Determine the area, depth of the burn and prognosis for this patient.

Situational task number 5.

A 40-year-old patient is in the postoperative ward after resection of 1/3 of the stomach due to peptic ulcer. By the end of the second day the patient’s condition worsened, hiccups appeared. Objectively: the general condition is moderate, the tongue is dry with white coating, the gases do not go away.

Exercise:

1. Define the concept of “operation”, name its type according to the outcome and degree of infection in this patient.

2. Name the complication that has developed in the patient.

3. List the patient’s current and potential problems with this complication, formulate a priority problem and solve it according to the stages of the nursing process.

4. Give advice to the patient and relatives on diet after discharge from the hospital.

5. Compose a set of common group tools.

Situational task number 6.

A 25-year-old woman came to the health center of a manufacturing enterprise with complaints of cutting pains in the lower abdomen, aggravated by urination. According to the patient, she got cold three days ago when washing windows. The nurse suspected acute cystitis.

Tasks:

1. Give a definition of acute cystitis, name the causes and predisposing factors for the onset of the disease.

2. Make a conclusion about the signs of acute cystitis according to the general analysis of urine.

3. List the current and potential problems of the patient, formulate a priority problem and solve it according to the stages of the nursing process.
