Fragment of the inspection protocol

“… When examining the territory of the yard in the sand in the garden, a path of footprints was found. It starts from the corner of the house and goes in a northwesterly direction to the gate in the fence. The track has a length of 25 meters and consists of voluminous depressed footprints of shoes, which are displayed quite clearly. The surface of the footprints is dry at the time of inspection.

Elements of the footprints: step length of the right leg – 65 cm, step length of the left leg – 69 cm, angle of turn of the foot of the right foot – 5 °, angle of turn of the foot of the left foot – 13 °, width of the legs – 10 cm.

The 4th shoe track from the right foot and the 6th shoe track from the left foot were most clearly displayed. The size of the shoe footprint on the right foot: the total length of the footprint is 30 cm, the largest width of the outsole is 11 cm, the smallest width of the intermediate part is 6 cm, the heel length is 8 cm, the heel width is 7.5 cm, the footprint depth in the toe area is about 2 cm, in the intermediate part – 0.5 cm, heel – 1 cm. In the footprint of the shoe on the left foot, the depth in the toe area is 1 cm, in the intermediate part – 0.5 cm, heel – 2 cm, other dimensions are the same , as in the trace of the right foot.

The shape of the toe in the traces is round, the leading edge of the heel is concave, the outsole and the intermediate part of the sole do not form a single whole.

In the middle part of the outsole trace there is a relief pattern in the form of round depressions 1 cm in diameter, up to 0.3 cm deep, arranged in rows across the outsole. In the footprint of the heel, four transverse depressed stripes 0.8 cm wide, 0.2 cm deep were displayed, the distance between them was 0.5 cm … “.

Tasks

1. A feature of the discovered path of footprints is the difference in the length of the steps. The length of the step of the left foot is 6 cm longer than the step of the right foot and is 52 cm. The traces of the right foot are pressed into the ground more, especially the heel part. Stop angle is positive within 13-15.

What can be said about the physical data of the person who left traces at the scene?

Female. Lame on the right leg.

2. While examining the scene of the incident, the investigator found a trail of footprints. He drew attention to the following features: the length of the placement of the right and left legs, the angles of the feet and the length of the steps diverge significantly from each other throughout the criminal’s movement; in the area of the toe of the shoe, the traces are pressed deeper.

What actual circumstances can these signs of the track of footprints indicate?

These circumstances may indicate that the offender acted covertly, secretly, wishing to remain unnoticed. He committed crimes in the dark, presumably at night. He moved on his toes to act silently.

3. At the end of November 1982, Ostapov, a resident of Omsk, reported to the police department about the robbery of his dacha, located on the territory of a gardening cooperative. During the inspection of the site, it was found that there was a small layer of snow on the ground. On the terrace and in the rooms, a lot of footprints from heavily soiled people’s feet were found. Near the porch of the dacha there are wagon ruts deeply pressed into the soil and traces of horse hooves and people’s feet. The track, traces of hooves and legs are covered with snow. From the meteorological report requested by the investigator, it can be seen that the meteorological conditions were as follows: snow fell: two rainy days before it, and before that it was cold but dry.

What can be said about the time of the crime?

Presumably it was a day, because. the many footprints left on the terrace and in the rooms by heavily soiled human feet testify to the warm time of day when the melting occurs.
